Fungiculture

Foraging through a city like Beirut where there’s a dire lack of green space – at best 0.8 square meters per capita, far below the World Health Organization’s recommended 12 square meters, one can notice the growth of different types and sizes of mushrooms in urban environments interacting with diverse urban elements. Just like in their natural habitat, these mushrooms grow in the city out of grime and desolate places.

Fungiculture is an anonymous street art project through which I attempt to imprint an element of nature in Beirut by spreading a network of mushrooms leaving a “nature trail” through the concrete urban cityscape.
